Do you think colonization has created a mindset that foreign food is somewhat better than local food?

“Do you think colonization has created a mindset that foreign food is somewhat better than local food?
Absolutely! Colonization was a business after all.

The colonizers were serving the interests of their business elites. We were brainwashed to believe that “What Comes from the West is Best”. That was an efficient marketing strategy and unfortunately, it still applies today. […] A strong agriculture will bring balance to our budgets since we will not be importing so much food anymore. In addition, it will also bring food security as we are no longer relying on others to feed ourselves. Not to mention the sense of pride that comes for eating our own food.” Read our full interview with chef Pierre Thiam in the Black Excellence section of our webzine. We discussed African cuisine, agriculture, food security & sustainable practices, as well as the revolution that’s happening right now with African food.
